After April 28th, 2011 after a 3 day span of intense tornadoes, the damage left was tremendous in 21 states. The overall damage left was 11 Billion dollars from 358 tornadoes which killed 238 people and injured 1,998 more, of those tornadoes 62 of them were in Alabama. Combined, the paths of the tornadoes spanned 691.02 miles, which for reference from Springfield IL to Toronto Canada is 694 miles. Sixteen of those tornadoes had paths of destruction that were 10 miles long, and 8 of the tornadoes had paths of destruction that were 25 miles long. There were multiple EF-5 tornado outbreaks with 1 in Alabama, and 1 in Mississippi. The EF-5 in Mississippi had winds of up to 205 mph, destroyed 18 homes and killed 14 people. The second EF-5 in Alabama ended in Tennessee and had a path of 132 miles and the tornado was up to 1 and a quarter mile wide at a point. However, the most destructive tornado occurred in Alabama which was not an EF-5, but an EF-4. This tornado had winds which reached up to 190 mp, had a width of 1.5 miles, and had a path of destruction which went on for approximately 80 miles. This tornado struck near Tuscaloosa and Birmingham This tornado injured at least 1,000 people and killed another 65. The damage this tornado caused was immense, with it costing up to 100 million dollars to pick up debris, and is the costliest tornado in US history. As a whole, the thunderstorm that caused the outbreaks ranged from Mississippi to North Carolina. This infamous few days will go down in U.S. history as the deadliest tornado outbreak since 1936, and in that span of 3 days, April 27, 2011 killed the most people from a tornado outbreak since 1925.
